The decision of Stan and Milena to get married came out apparently unexpectedly. However, Stan proposed Milena already a few weeks after they first met. Since then, he did not change his mind and it took him a lot of time and effort to convince Milena to add her consent, which happened on May 14th 2006. Without our parents, the informal wedding ceremony was then scheduled in less then two weeks for May 27th 2006 and it took place at romantic southern point of Roosevelt Island. Across the East River stood Manhattan skyscrapers dominated by the United Nations.
Our friends Katka and Jaroslav Nemcok served as our marriage witnesses. They actually witnessed the development of our relationship from the beginning. We could not make a better choice because Katka and Jaro took very good care of us including music accompaniment, photographing, wonderful marriage gift, the wedding photo album made on the second day and overall maintenance of very nice and entertaining atmosphere. Our wedding photos are available on this website thanks to Jaro Nemcok and we are very grateful for this. We also acknowledge their three sons Michal, Tomas and Josef for their very original and humorous video recording of the ceremony.
The wedding service was carried out by Rev. Kelly-Ray Meritt, whom Stan knows for many years from Russian Chamber Chorus of NY. He sang for us a Czech song with English text that he composed on his own! The other attendees of our wedding are as follows: Peter Novotny, Nathan Siktberg, Jana Skripalova and Michal Sadlon.
After the ceremony, we have moved to Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden in Astoria, Queens. We took a lunch and celebrated our wedding among our natives, Czechs and Slovaks. We drank Moravian Slivowitz and enjoyed Slovak music and folk dancers.
